Irving Penn

Irving Penn (June 16, 1917 – October 7, 2009) was an American photographer known for his fashion photography, portraits, and still lifes. Penn's career included work at Vogue magazine, and independent advertising work for clients including Issey Miyake and Clinique. His work has been exhibited internationally and continues to inform the art of photography.

Portrait of Miles Davis. This photo is really unique because of the right lighting that was used for this photoshoot. The lighting shine directly on his face which only focus on his face as Miles Davis in the main object.

This shoot is really nice. The details of white water that was splashed on the model's face can be seen. This is because of his fast shutter speed. This method can be apply to my photography to shoot something that is really fast to capture all the details. 

Another portrait of Miles David. Look at how he focus just on the face and not the body. The expression of his face is good and with the good lightings for the shoot, the photo turns out really well.

Florian Ritter

Florian Ritter

Born in 1981, July, Florian grew up with his younger sister and older brother and his mother in Nieder Erlenbach, near Frankfurt am Main, Germany. His love for photography has started by the year of 2007, working door on door to the art buying department of his agency and reviewing photographer’s portfolios. Realising fast that photography has much more to offer, besides images, he got deeply engaged in photographing people and landscape.

This photo is really nice. The sky is really pretty and plus the reflection of the mountain makes the photos much nicer. From this photo, I can learn on how to take photo by make use of the water reflection.

The scenery of the place is so nice, with the mist that can be seen from the photo. I like how he took this photo. The framing is nice with another cow behind it which looks really nice.

The clouds, the mountains look so nice in this photo. From his photo, I learn that editing skills also important to bring up the mood. Like for this photo, I can feel the mood of it which I think it is important to show to the viewers.

 

Lee Towndrow

Lee Towndrow

Towndrow began his career as a designer and photographer at a design firm he founded. The firm was best known for creating the album cover artwork for prominent Canadian bands such as Sloan, The Flashing Lights, The Inbreds and Michelle McAdorey.

I'm going to show his portrait photography which I find it is unique and really different from the normal self portrait photography.

     

                  

The portrait called, 'Paper Portraits'.  Look at the colours of the photographs. It is really nice. His portrait works are something different. I always thought that self portrait photography should be formal but by looking at his works, his works is unique. The colours that was used in the photos are bright.

Usually, people prefers black and white photographs but his works, have a really bright colours which I really love. From his works, I learn that, we have to be experimental when doing photography to find what type of photography we are into.

Anne Geddes

Anne Geddes

Anne Geddes, MNZM (born 13 September 1956) is an Australian-born photographer, currently living and working in New York.
Geddes' books have been published in 83 countries.According to Amazon.com, she has sold more than 18 million books and 13 million calendars.In 1997, Cedco Publishing sold more than 1.8 million calendars and date books bearing Geddes' photography. Her debut book, Down in the Garden, made it to the New York Times Bestseller List. Her books have been translated into 23 different languages.

 This is one of her famous photograph. Her work is popular

because of her creativity in doing studio shoot with the babies. Her work is always out of the box. Her photography always used in calendar. People will find her work is easy to shoot and done but I think to shoot in a studio with baby, it is quite difficult because it's hard to handle babies. They don't understand what we want. So usually, we have to wait for them and follow their mood which requires lots of patience.

     

By looking at this photographs, I feel so happy to see this bright faces from the babies. I think taking photos babies is hard but the end result makes us happy too. She really get to captures the right moment of the babies which I can apply to my works that is, always be patience, don't give up. 

 Look at how the lighting that was shown to the babies it was really nice. From her photographs, I learn that, we really have to plan the lightings for the studio first before shooting so we will not waste time in getting the right lightings for the shooting.

Raghubir Singh

Raghubir Singh

Raghubir Singh (1942–1999) was an Indian photographer, most known for his landscapes and documentary-style photographs of the people of India. He was a self-taught photographer who worked in India and lived in Paris, London, and New York. During his career, he worked with National Geographic Magazine, The New York Times, The New Yorker and Time. In the early 1970s, he was one of the first photographers to reinvent the use of color at a time when color photography was still a marginal art form.

By looking at the photo, there are so many things we can see. It really shows the life of the people in India. This picture I find it really interesting because of the reflections. It does make me confuse of how the photo is like but I think the more confuse the picture is, it make people want to look at it as it makes people think more about the picture. 

It is a simple photo but it is interesting photo. The framing technique that was used for this photo which I think it is nice. 

Another photo that was taken by him from inside car. 

This photo is really nice. It captured the activity of the people. The photo was taken at a right time.

    

This are his few other works. It is really inspiring to see how he express the life of this people. The expression that was captured really shown on his photographs it is really good works.

 

Sally Mann

Sally Man 

In the fall of 1992, a traveling exhibit opened at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia. The collection was called "Immediate Family", and it was by a young and lesser known photographer by the name of Sally Mann. This is her controversial work as to people they see it as a child pornography, and mark her as an irresponsible mother. But to her, they were little more than tender, maternal photographs of her children.  

The name of this photograph is called 'Damaged Child'. The little name, Jessie, she had a very swollen right eye. From the way she took the photo, although it is just a normal portrait photo, the way she shows the expression of the girl is really good. She took the photo at  right moment. I think I can apply it to my work. I have to let them express their feeling by asking them about their life, and eventually, you can take a really good shot that can be express from the person face. 

 

This photo depicts what childhood truly is. She really being creative by showing the blood that was flowing out from the boy's nose. From this picture, I learn that being creative in taking photographs is important to show the story behind the photo. People usually don't like to read the description of the photo, so this is the way to show about the photo. Simple and straight forward.

                  

From her photographs, I can see there is so many stories behind it. We can't just assume on what happening in the photo is bad. We have to understand about it first. So, I think I can add apply this to my photography too by making people wonder what this photograph is about. Although the photos are all in black and white, the lighting is really important. You can see in every of her photos, it have a good lightings.

Rinko Kawauchi

Rinko Kawauchi Hon FRPS born 1972 is a Japanese photographer. Her work is characterized by a serene, poetic style, depicting the ordinary moments in life.

Most of her photos are something that we see in our daily life. She makes us think of what is happening in the photo. Make us question ourselves like "What is this?" "What is this about?" This is my own thoughts when looking through her photos. 

       

  Her works are her diary. Expressing her thoughts and feelings. The filter, or edit all the same. This really shows her style of work. From her photography, I learn that we need to have our own style of work, so we get to maintain the quality of work. 

Fan Ho

Fan Ho

Fan Ho was a celebrated Chinese photographer, film director, and actor. He won over 280 awards from international exhibitions and competitions worldwide since 1956 for his photography.

Below are few of his works;

This is one of my favourite photo. This picture was taken at Hong Kong. The sunlight from the stairs make the picture more impactful. The position of the camera is right in the middle of the staircase which is really nice. I love how the sunlight shine on the old lady and the shadows. 

This is really beautiful photo. The photo focus on the man who is on the boat. We can't really see the face of the man but the silhouette of the man does makes the photo really nice. The foggy effect on the photo somehow like telling us the story of the man. 

The photo focus on the small stall in the middle of the street. This photo is nice because of the sunlight that shine direct at the stall. A really great composition.

From his photos, i see he like to make use of the natural sunlight. It is really nice to see the shadows, that was form by the sunlight. I think I could also make take photo and make use of the natural sunlight which really give a great impact to the photo.
